Staff Spotlight- Toni Jurmu

Toni Jurmu

How long have you worked at Northwood? What’s your position?
In September 2019, I started with Northwood as a temporary Admissions Coordinator. I transferred over to the Human Resources Department in December of 2019 as a Human Resources Coordinator and presently serve our employees as a Human Resource Generalist.

What makes you want to come to work every day?
My professional roots are in Social Work. I love being a part of an organization that provides kids and adolescents a beautiful setting where they can work on emotional healing, learn new skills to be successful, and have hope for their futures.

What’s the best part about your job?
I love the challenge of learning and using new skills I’ve gained in the Human Resources field, but mostly, I just like working with people.

What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
I always enjoy kicking back with my husband and our 3 kids. In the summer, I love going to our lake cabin in upper Michigan and jet skiing. In the winter, I love snowmobiling at our hunting property also in upper Michigan.

You’re in an elevator and you have to quickly explain to a stranger what Northwood is. What would you say?
Northwood is a crusader for kids struggling with mental health and behavior difficulties. We provide a nurturing environment where kids truly come first. Our dedicated staff are amazing people who do their best every day to make sure our students have opportunities to grow, feel safe, and heal.

What two items would you take with you if you shipwrecked on a deserted island where all your food and water needs were taken care of?
A hammock and my music.
